JOB TITLE: HEALTH CARE ASSISTANT.
LOCATION: SALGAA TOWN IN NAKURU.
REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR NURSING SERVICES.
Main Duties and Responsibilities.
All Health care assistants are part of Medical team giving care to the patients always under Supervision and in conjunction with the Nurses shall:
- Provide bed bath, offer mouth care, change and turn patients, offer clean clothing, feed the patient, walk and even give simple exercises to the patients
- Respond to call bells at all times and in collaboration with the primary nurses meet the patients needs.
- Empty bedpans, change sputum mugs and ensure they are always clean and stored in the sluice room.
- Maintain oral fluid intake and output in the fluid chart
- Empty urine bags
- Escort stable patients for procedures outside the hospital e.g. MRI, Radiotherapy etc. as directed by the nurses
- Escort stable patients using wheelchairs on discharge to the car park
- Keep the ward tidy including dusting of lockers, reporting on any missing items in the ward to the team leader e.g. drip stands and wheelchairs
- Report any broken items in the ward to the team leaders
- Clean drip stands and take them to maintenance if need be.
- Ensure all empty beds in the ward are ready for admission
- Strip all beds upon discharge and ensure the beds are carbolized before preparing them for admission
- Wash disinfect and prepare dressing packs for autoclaving
- Prepare gauze and gauze packs
- Assist the Medical team in Clinics e.g. dental, eye, Ultrasound, Child welfare depending on individual ability.
- Keep constant check on patients and report to the Senior Nurse and therefore to be in area of allocation all the time.
- N/B. All HCA must be available to receive patient report handover both in the morning and in the evening.
Requirements:
- Certificate in Health Care Assistance
- At least 1 year experience.
